Container Recording Studios and Music Rooms
Quick answer
A container recording studio is a steel shell fitted out as a sound-controlled room, with acoustic treatment, a separate control space and isolated power. Units are supplied unit-only, delivered port-to-port on FOB terms.
- Isolated shell for sound control
- Separate live room and control room option
- Acoustic treatment fitted locally to the use

Why a separate building helps
Sound control works in two directions. A studio has to keep its own sound in, so that neighbours are not disturbed, and keep outside sound out, so that recordings are clean. A standalone unit addresses both, because there is no shared wall with a house and no room above or below.
That separation is the reason studios in gardens, yards and industrial plots are often built as separate structures rather than as rooms inside a building. A converted bedroom shares a structure with the rest of the house, and structure-borne sound travels through it.
A steel shell is a good starting point because it is heavy, sealed and does not share a wall with anything. It still needs acoustic treatment, but the starting point is better than a timber shed.
The room-within-a-room principle
The single most effective thing in a studio build is separation between the inner room and the outer shell. If the inner walls, ceiling and floor are structurally separate from the outer ones, sound has to cross an air gap to escape, and that gap does most of the work.
In a container this means building an inner frame inside the shell and not fixing it rigidly to the steel. The gap is filled with acoustic insulation, and the inner surfaces are finished with a dense board. Doors need the same treatment, since a light door in a heavy wall is where sound escapes.
This is the part that must be designed before the shell is ordered, because it sets the internal dimensions. A studio that fills the whole unit leaves no room for the inner wall.
Live room, control room and the layout choice
A single-room studio is simpler and suits songwriting, voice work, podcasts and small-scale recording. One space, one set of treatment, one door.
A two-room studio separates the performance space from the control space, which lets an engineer work while a musician plays and lets a musician hear the mix without walking round. It costs internal space and it needs a window between the two, but for a commercial studio it is close to essential.
The trade-off is the same in any unit: separation costs space. Deciding which arrangement you need before specifying the shell is what stops the unit being built the wrong size.
Power and the practical details
Audio equipment is sensitive to electrical noise, so the power arrangement is not simply a question of capacity. Lighting dimmers and air conditioning can both introduce interference, and separating the audio circuits from the noisy ones is worth designing in from the start.
Ventilation is the other practical issue. A sealed, treated room has no air movement, and a room without air movement becomes uncomfortable within an hour. Ventilation has to be fitted with acoustic baffles so that the duct does not become a path for sound.
For studios with drums or amplified instruments, the floor needs a structural layer that does not transmit vibration into the shell, which is normally a floating floor on resilient mounts.
Delivery and payment
Units are delivered port-to-port under FOB terms. Siting, the electrical connection and the acoustic fit-out are arranged locally by the buyer on arrival, since acoustic treatment is best tuned on site to the finished room.
Payment is by bank transfer in full, due in full before production. There is no online checkout; every order begins with a written quotation.
Send the work you intend to do, whether you need one room or two, and your nearest port for a quoted specification.
Frequently asked questions
How is payment handled?
Payment is by bank transfer in full before production.
How are units delivered?
Units ship folded and are delivered port-to-port (FOB). You arrange local transport from the port to your site.
Can I order more than one unit?
Yes. Multi-unit orders ship together, which lowers the freight cost per unit.
