Container Home vs Modular vs Manufactured: Best Choice for You
Three options. Cost per square foot: container quoted-80. Modular quoted-180. Manufactured quoted-100. Delivery: container 4-6 weeks plus 1-3 days setup. Modular 3-6 months. Manufactured 4-8 weeks. Durability: container steel 25+ years, no termites, 120 mph wind. Modular 50+ years standard construction. Manufactured 30-55 years lighter construction. ordering: container needs personal order. Modular gets conventional ordering. Manufactured gets chattel or FHA order. Resale: container holds 60-80%. Modular appreciates. Manufactured depreciates. Container fills the gap. Cheaper than modular. More durable than manufactured. Faster than both. Email info@atvworldwide.com.

Where the three categories actually diverge
The words get used interchangeably, but they describe three different manufacturing systems, and the differences show up in how the building is transported, how it is inspected, and what you can change later.
Modular construction
Modular means the building is assembled from volumetric boxes built indoors to the same code as a site-built home. Modules arrive with finishes complete and are craned into place and joined on site. Because they are built to a local code they are typically the easiest category to permit and to insure, but they are also the most expensive per square metre and the transport is heavy: you are moving finished rooms.
Manufactured housing
Manufactured homes are built to a national housing standard rather than a local building code. That standard governs the chassis, the structural design and the transport loading, and it is what allows the home to be sold as a complete unit and towed to site. The trade-off is that manufactured homes carry their own appraisal and zoning rules, which vary sharply by jurisdiction.
Container-based units
A container home starts from a standard ISO steel shell and adds insulation, lining, services and openings. It is the lightest and most transport-efficient of the three: a folded unit ships at a fraction of its expanded volume, which is why it crosses an ocean economically. The shell is genuinely strong, but the insulation, services and finishes are what determine comfort, and those are where cheap builds fall down.
What that means for your decision
If your priority is the fastest approval inside a strict local code, modular is the well-trodden path and you pay for it. If your jurisdiction recognises manufactured housing, that route has mature delivery infrastructure. If your priority is delivered cost per square metre and you are willing to handle site works and local permits yourself, a container-based unit is the most efficient answer.
One practical test before you choose: ask each supplier for the structural drawings and the insulation specification, in writing. A supplier who cannot produce those documents is not building to a standard you can inspect, whatever category they claim.
How to move forward
Choose the model that matches your site and your budget, then send your destination postal code and the model name. We take that to a customs broker and come back with an all-in delivered figure — unit, ocean freight, duty and brokerage — usually within one business day. There is no online checkout and no obligation: the quote is the start of the conversation, not a commitment.
Payment is by bank transfer in full before production. Units ship from the factory and are delivered port-to-port (FOB); you arrange local transport from the arrival port to your site. Because we work factory-direct with a single vetted manufacturer, the unit price you see is the same price a retailer would pay — there is no distributor margin layered on top.
