Why an enclosed bay rather than an open pitch
Hand car washing and valeting happen on open forecourts in most places, and the disadvantages are consistent. Weather stops trade. Water runs across the ground and into drains it should not enter. Staff work in the cold. Equipment gets stolen. Customers have nowhere comfortable to wait.
An enclosed container bay fixes all four. The work happens under cover, so the season extends. The floor falls to a collection point, so water is contained rather than spreading. The interior can be heated and lit. The equipment is behind a locked door overnight.
The unit also makes the business look established. Customers choosing between an open pitch and a proper bay tend to choose the bay, and that matters where a site has competition.
Water, drainage and containment
This is the part that decides whether a wash bay is permitted. Wash water carries detergents, oils and solids, and in many places it may not go into a surface water drain. The requirement is usually to collect it and either treat it or dispose of it properly.
The unit is therefore built with a floor that falls towards a collection point, and with the collection point leading to a sump or interceptor rather than straight out. A settlement tank or separator traps solids and oils before the water leaves.
Where water recycling is required or simply sensible for cost, a recycling unit can be fitted in the plant area. On a metered supply, recycling cuts both the water bill and the volume that has to be disposed of.
Layout for one or two vehicles
A single bay suits a valeting operation where one vehicle is worked on at a time. A double bay, or a bay with a separate drying and finishing area, suits volume work where a vehicle moves through stages.
The plant area is usually a separate compartment within or beside the unit. Separating it means the pumps, tanks, compressor and heater are not in the working space, which keeps the bay clear and reduces noise and water exposure on the equipment.
The customer point is the third element. A small counter or window where payment is taken and keys are handed over gives the operation a front, and lets staff work without being interrupted.
Power and equipment
A wash bay draws on pressure washers, vacuums, lighting, extraction and heating. The combined load is significant and continuous through a busy day, so the supply has to be sized for the total rather than for one machine at a time.
Extraction of moisture and chemical mist is worth specifying. A sealed box with hot water in it becomes humid quickly, and a humid box corrodes its own equipment. Ventilation that pulls air through keeps the interior usable and the equipment working.
Insulation extends the working season and reduces heating cost. In a cold climate a bay without insulation is unusable for part of the year, which undermines the reason for buying an enclosed unit in the first place.
Delivery and payment
Units are delivered port-to-port under FOB terms. The local requirements for water discharge, the ground works and the electrical connection are handled by the buyer on arrival, and those requirements are worth confirming before ordering.
Payment is by bank transfer in full, due in full before production. There is no online checkout; every order begins with a written quotation.
