Quick answer
Insulation is the single most important specification in a container home because steel conducts heat. Wall, floor and roof insulation, plus airtightness and ventilation, decide whether the unit is comfortable to live in and affordable to run. Choose the insulation level to suit your climate at order.

Why steel needs insulation
Metal transmits heat and cold very efficiently. Without insulation, a container unit is uncomfortable in both hot and cold weather and expensive to run. Insulation is not optional.
Insulate all six surfaces
Walls, floor and roof all lose heat. Ordinary container homes insulate walls and ceilings but skimp on the floor, which is where much heat escapes. Insulate all surfaces.
Airtightness and ventilation
An airtight shell keeps heat in, but you still need controlled ventilation to manage moisture and indoor air quality. The two work together.
Climate-specific levels
A unit for severe cold needs more insulation than one for a mild climate, and a hot climate needs it to keep heat out as well as cool air in. Specify for your location.
The cost of skipping it
Insulation is the hardest thing to upgrade later, because it sits behind the linings. Getting it right at order is far cheaper than retrofitting.
